TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23

Observe 250 years of the United States with Fraunces Tavern and author Michael Cecere on The Conflict Spreads: The American Colonies After Lexington & Concord. Fraunces Tavern Museum.

Join the Colin Powell School for Civic & Global Leadership for a screening of the documentary Apocolypse in the Tropics, followed by a discussion led by Professor Pedro Henrique Da Silva Lino and Alessandra Orofino co-producer and co-writer and founder of Meu Rio, Rio de Janeiro’s largest mobilization network.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24

Relive the heady days of fall, 2024, as Town Hall hosts two sittings of A Conversation with Kamala Harris.

It took four amendments across 80 years to offer all Americans full participation in our democracy. Constitutional historian Akhil Reed Amar examines figures like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Abraham Lincoln and the fight for suffrage across race and gender. The New York Historical.

Photographer Edward Burtynsky, with a retrospective on view at ICP now, joins environmentalist and activist Bill McKibben for a Climate Week NYC conversation about the role of the image. Book signings with both will follow.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25

Broadcaster and actor John Fugelsang asks "How did the religion of love get hijacked by the politics of fear?" Find him in a timely conversation about how to disagree better as he shares his new Separation of Church and Hate: A Sane Person’s Guide to Taking Back the Bible from Fundamentalists, Fascists, and Flock-Fleecing Frauds. The 92nd Street Y, New York.

Catch a panel of artists, theologians, and musicians as they explore the influence of spirituality on jazz. A jazz ensemble performance, featuring students from Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music, is part of the evening.

Professional musicians, youth orchestras, and community choirs join together in a site-responsive choral performance. Inspirations come from Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick, David Grann’s The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder, and the language of whale song. The National Arts Club.
